The Big Event is Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Lafayette's largest day of service!
It gives Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Lafayette students the opportunity to volunteer in their community in their own way. Through a variety of service projects, students gain a sense of citizenship and social responsibility, all while promoting a Ragin' Cajun spirit.
The History of The Big Event
The Big Event started in 1982 by students at Texas A&M University as a way to show appreciation and thank the surrounding community of Bryan-College Station. Their vision was to have an annual service project where students of Texas A&M could show their appreciation of local residents by completing various tasks throughout their community. Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Lafayette started their own Big Event in 2013 after students started expressing interest in doing the same thing for the Lafayette community. Our community is dedicated to supporting our students and our university, so it seemed like a simple yet impactful way to say thank you!
What The Big Event Has Become
The Big Event has seen tremendous growth over the past 41 years. Presently, over 130 Big Events occur at universities across the nation, totaling in 15,000 volunteers for The Big Event 2023. Although The Big Event has become the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation, our message still remains the same: simply saying "Thank You."
Donate
Since 2013, over 15,000 students have given back to our community through The Big Event. It is the largest volunteer movement in our campus’ history!
We invite you to join us this year to help make it even bigger by becoming a Big Event Backer! Your sponsorship will bring to fruition the desire of thousands of students to give back in a big way and make The Big Event a long and proud tradition for Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Lafayette and the community.
Through service, students can give back to our community as one big thanks. That’s what makes The Big Event so big!
