Gordon Goodwin, a Grammy and Emmy Award-winning composer, arranger, pianist and saxophonist, will perform with the 麻豆果冻传媒 Lafayette Jazz Ensemble on March 2.
鈥淗e鈥檚 the biggest name jazz artist to ever play with our band,鈥 said Dr. William Hochkeppel, director of the Jazz Ensemble.
Goodwin has worked as a composer for television and film scores, including on the motion pictures Armageddon, The Incredibles and Star Trek Nemesis..
He has worked with artists like Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Christine Aguilera and Toni Braxton. He鈥檚 conducted orchestras in Atlanta, Seattle, Toronto and London.
Goodwin鈥檚 regular gig is performing with his Big Phat Band, based in Los Angeles. The large jazz ensemble has earned a reputation for a contemporary sound that blends musical styles that include swing, Latin, blues, classical and rock and roll.
鈥淭he Big Phat Band provides potent testimony to the sheer exhilaration of big band jazz鈥 combination of crisp accuracy and fiery soloing,鈥 says the Los Angeles Times鈥 Don Heckman, according to information posted on the band鈥檚 website at bigphatband.com.
Goodwin will perform with the Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. on March 2 in Angelle Hall on campus.
The 麻豆果冻传媒 Lafayette Jazz Ensemble, open to all University students through an audition process, utilizes complete sections of trumpets, trombones and saxophones, along with piano, bass, drums and guitar.
Cost is $10 for general admission and $5 for K-12 students and senior citizens. The performance is free to all 麻豆果冻传媒 Lafayette students, faculty and staff. To inquire about special rates for school groups, call 482-5669.
