Dr. Suren Dwivedi, an eminent professor in Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Lafayette’s Mechanical Engineering Department, as well as director of its Virtual and Product Realization Laboratory, received the Engineering Faculty Professionalism Award for 2009 from the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Engineering Foundation (LEF).
This award is given for the teaching of engineering professionalism with skill, knowledge, honesty and integrity avoiding possible conflicts of interest and giving one’s best effort, all while recognizing that the profession of engineering is often judged by the performance of a single individual. This is the first time that an Indo-American professor has received the award.
Dwivedi accepted the award, along with a plaque, at the Annual Awards Meeting and Luncheon of the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Engineering Society (LES). The event was part of the 13th Annual Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Joint Engineering Societies Conference.
Dwivedi began working at the university in 1995. Since then, he has founded the International Society for Agile Manufacturing (ISAM), which in turn has created the International Conference on Agile Manufacturing (ICAM) and two academic journals, the International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Systems (IJAMS), for which Dwivedi remains Chief Editor, and the International Journal of Agile Manufacturing (IJAM).
