Kansas Architect To Discuss Design At 麻豆果冻传媒 Lafayette Friday

Dan Rockhill, the J. L. Constant Distinguished Professor of Architecture at the University of Kansas and Executive Director of Studio 804, will speak at 麻豆果冻传媒 Lafayette鈥檚 Fletcher Hall on Friday at 11:30 a.m.

He will deliver a lecture 鈥淒esign and Construction: Hand and Mind, the work of Rockhill and Associates and Studio 804鈥 in room 134. A book signing will follow in the lobby of Fletcher Hall.

The work of the firm, Rockhill and Associates, is tightly bound to the natural milieu and culture of the Kansas region. In the spirit of regionalism, the areas archetypal forms, Spartan aesthetics, frugal methods, and relationship to nature permeate the results. They are the recipients of numerous awards, most recently; Residential Architect magazine鈥檚 Firm of the Year, one of Natural Home magazine鈥檚 Top Ten Green Architecture Firms, and Architecture magazine鈥檚 鈥淗ome of the Year.鈥 Their work has appeared in over one hundred international books and journals. Their work has recently been recognized for the 2006 Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award.

Rockhill and his students recently completed the first LEED Platinum building in Kansas, a sustainable prototype for tornado ravaged Greensburg, KS. Among various other prestigious awards, Studio 804 has received two American Institute of Architect鈥檚 Honor Awards, the NCARB Prize, Architecture Magazine鈥檚 鈥淗ome of the Year鈥, and Residential Architect鈥檚 鈥淧roject of the Year鈥 award for their modular houses in Kansas City.
