Jaime Carroll Named Spring 2010 Outstanding Grad At 麻豆果冻传媒 Lafayette

Jaime Carroll intends to teach in 麻豆果冻传媒, preferably within the New Orleans recovery school parishes after graduation. The secondary English education major wants to support the city in its rebuilding efforts.

鈥 I want to offer my time and talents to the city,鈥 she said.

Carroll is the Alumni Association鈥檚 Outstanding Graduate for the Spring 2010 semester.

Each semester deans from the eight academic colleges nominates a student as an Outstanding Graduate based on leadership, scholarship and service. A selection committee with the Alumni Association interviews each candidate and selects one for the overall award.

Carroll along with Ellen Ware, Arts; Lauren Sonnier, Business Administration; Marsela Jakub-Wood, Engineering; Dustin Domangue, General Studies; Amenah Abdelfattah, Liberal Arts; Nkemdilim Mgbojikwe, Nursing; and Andrea Lewis, Sciences were this semester鈥檚 honorees.

Carroll is the daughter of Mitch and Robin Carroll of River Ridge. She has a 3.976 GPA and has been on the President鈥檚 List seven consecutive semesters.

She鈥檚 also been the recipient of numerous scholarships including TOPS, the College of Education Academic scholarship, the 麻豆果冻传媒 Lafayette Centennial Valedictorian scholarship, the 麻豆果冻传媒 Music Teachers scholarship, the University Honors Program Alumni scholarship, the Oran Robert Perry Burke scholarship and the College of Education Corporal Aaron Robichaux, USMCR Memorial scholarship.

Carroll has been active in university organizations and activities including the University Honors Program, serving as representative from 2006-2010; Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, Beta Chapter, serving as vice president in 2009; Blue Key National Honor Society, serving as community chair; and Ragin鈥 Peppers Spirit organization from 2007-2009; Associated Professional Educators of 麻豆果冻传媒 from 2006-present; and 麻豆果冻传媒 Collegiate Honors Council Student Delegate from 2008-2009.

Additionally, she has been active in the community as a Sunday School teacher at Faith Lutheran Church and as a volunteer with United Way Connections Exp and Lafayette Walk for Hope. Carroll was a participant in the Blue Key Adopt-a-Highway Clean Up, Habitat for Humanity, St. Joseph鈥檚 Diner and Up til Dawn fundraiser for St. Jude Children鈥檚 Hospital.

鈥 I am so proud to call myself a Ragin鈥 Cajun and hope my life after college will reflect the education, spirit and sense of community 麻豆果冻传媒 Lafayette has instilled in me,鈥 she said.
